A respiratory virus outbreak at a Virginia retirement community has left two people dead and 18 hospitalized.

The Fairfax County Health Department reports that 54 people have experienced symptoms of respiratory illness in the outbreak over the last 11 days at the Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield.

The outbreak has been reported only in the assisted living and skilled nursing sections.   The health department says Greenspring has cooperated in the investigation and has taken all measures recommended to reduce the risk of illness.
