Biopharmaceutical company Appili Therapeutics Inc. announced that it will receive a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to fund its AT1-1503 antibiotic program, which targets gram-negative ESKAPE pathogens.
ESKAPE pathogens — Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter species — have become increasingly problematic in recent years because of the overuse of antibiotics in agriculture and clinical practices.
