Highlights

•    In-cabin VOCs may lead to adverse effects on human health, therefore, interior VOCs for new vehicles were measured to evaluate the human health risk and to identify the dominant source.
•    The in-cabin VOCs levels in the present study were all below the Chinese limitations, but inhalation exposure to these VOCs may still cause potential cancer and non-cancer risks.
•    CMB results demonstrated that carpet and seats were the most important source for VOCs inside new vehicle.
•    Formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, the main causes of potential human health risks, were mainly from carpet and seats.
