The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) has recently issued draft guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease. This was written together with the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR).  They offer a public comment period until August 10, 2019.

The TL:DR version for those who don’t want the excruciating details is: There are three major groups setting guidelines for diagnosing and treating Lyme. It’s rather like Goldilocks testing beds. IDSA is the firmest and continues to have very conservative, relatively rigid guidelines. The International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADs) is the “softest,” tending to conform more to the shape of its users. And National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is squarely in the middle, largely evidence-based but acknowledging the role of clinical experience.
