The short answer from a dermatologist
Q: I have a surgical scar. Will anything make it less visible?
A: I always tell my patients, a scar is a scar and will always be a scar. We can do procedures to make scars less visible, but afterward you’ll still have a scar.
If patients opt for scar revision surgery, we advise them to keep the area nice and moist so the sutures can come off easily. (If a scab should form, it will delay the healing process and create more scarring.) The more moist the healing environment, the better the scar will look.
